Overview

We are seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer to play a key role in expanding and strengthening our transportation practice in our Edison, NJ office. This position offers the opportunity to help build and shape our in-house traffic capabilities in support of bridge, roadway, and infrastructure projects throughout NJ and NY, particularly for NJDOT and NYSDOT clients. In addition this role is intended for a well-rounded infrastructure professional who is comfortable operating beyond traditional traffic engineering boundaries when project or practice needs require.

 

This is not solely a production role. We are looking for an experienced traffic professional who is interested in helping grow a practice — someone who can lead technical efforts, contribute to pursuit strategy, mentor staff, and collaborate across disciplines and office locations to deliver integrated and constructible transportation solutions.

The successful candidate will work closely with structural, civil, and infrastructure teams to integrate traffic engineering into projects from planning and concept development through final design and construction.

Recently, Global Infrastructure Solutions Inc. (GISI), the parent company of The LiRo Group and Hill International, Inc. consolidated a portion of the highly experienced staff of both LiRo and Hill in the Northeast to create a larger, more efficient, and cost-effective team to serve clients.  LiRo-Hill  is a 1100-person firm with offices in NYC, Long Island, Buffalo, Rochester, Boston and Edison, NJ.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Perform and review traffic engineering analyses, including capacity analysis, signal analysis, intersection evaluation, and corridor studies (e.g., Synchro, HCS)
  • Lead and oversee the preparation of Maintenance & Protection of Traffic (MPT) and staging plans for bridge and roadway projects
  • Develop traffic control, signing, and pavement marking plans in accordance with NJDOT, NJTA, NYSDOT, NYCDOT, and MUTCD standards
  • Support and lead traffic impact studies and operational improvement projects
  • Coordinate closely with structural and civil engineers to develop practical, cost-effective, and constructible staging solutions
  • Serve as task lead and technical authority on traffic-related assignments
  • Participate in site visits and constructability reviews to evaluate existing traffic conditions
  • Provide technical support during construction administration
  • Assist with agency coordination and client engagement related to traffic and work zone impacts
  • Contribute to proposals, qualifications packages, and business development efforts to strengthen the firm’s transportation resume

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering  or Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (Transportation focus preferred)
  • 8–25 years of traffic engineering experience, including DOT project experience
  • NJ PE required; NY PE strongly preferred or ability to obtain
  • PTOE certification preferred
  • Demonstrated experience with NJDOT, NJTA, NYSDOT, or NYCDOT standards and procedures
  • Strong background in MPT/staging and work zone traffic control
  • Experience with traffic analysis software (Synchro, HCS, VISSIM or similar)
  • Signal design and timing experience preferred
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD preferred; MicroStation experience is a plus
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, mentor junior staff and work as part of team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • We offer a comprehensive benefits package and a positive work environment
  • Compensation:  Minimum: $140,000; Maximum: $170,000. The range provided is the salary that the Firm in good faith believes at the time of this posting is willing to pay. Exact compensation will be determined on the individual candidate’s qualifications and location.
